The Beauty of Answering God’s Call to Step out of My Comfort Zone

To know me is to know that having brunch on a rooftop patio in Uptown Dallas is about as outdoorsy as I get. However, the Lord has a great sense of humor and loves calling me into areas where He knows are out of my comfort zone. In fact, God got a good laugh about a month ago when He called me to go to Frontier Ranch in Buena Vista, Colorado, for Young Life camp for a week! Minus me being sick for two days, I was filled with so much joy after trusting God to guide me through a week in a place that was unfamiliar. Here’s what can happen when we allow ourselves to experience the beauty of answering God’s call to take a walk outside of our comfort zones. Continue reading

Paleo Prep: Healthy Eating on a Budget

paleo

When I transitioned to the paleo lifestyle (because it’s not a diet but a way of life), I was just trying lose my little wine and beer pooch. I was overwhelmed with excitement when after a month of following the paleo eating routine (which included no drinking), I exceeded my goal and lost an astonishing 15 pounds in four weeks! While people tend to initially think that healthy means expensive (Thanks a lot, Whole Foods a.k.a. Whole Paycheck), paleo was actually cheaper than my  former inconsistent, sometimes extremely unhealthy eating habits. Before I outline the basics on how to live paleo on a budget, let me explain what pale is exactly. Continue reading

At an age where we’re going to weddings every other weekend and running into our Tinder matches in the checkout line at the grocery store, there seems to be lots of pressure to find a life partner.  As a born and bred southern boy, I’ve spent my entire life watching couples get married early in adulthood, sometimes even before they’re old enough to consume an adult beverage. Before I go any further, let me put it out there that I’m not dogging anyone who is married, engaged or has these desires; I’m simply acting as a megaphone for us singles who get the pity looks from our peers just because we’re going into our 30’s solo. 10 Different Ways Beyoncè, Jay-Z, Blu Ivy and I Eat Kale

beyonce-kale-sweatshirt

Beyoncè Giselle Knowles-Carter, along with her personal trainer, exercise physiologist Marco Borges, recently launched 22 Days Nutrition, a plant-based home delivery meal service. In her 7/11 video, she twerks on a patio while wearing a sweatshirt with “KALE” in big letters across it. In December 2013, Bey-Z adopted a plant-based diet for 22 days in which Jay Z referred to the challenge as “a spiritual and physical cleanse.” The point I’m trying to make is King B is all about the kale, thus, we ALL should be about the kale! Here are some recipes to experiment with adding this superfood into your diet. Continue reading
