I Scream, You Scream: Dallas’ Eight Best Ice Cream Joints

It’s summertime in Texas and we can never have enough ways to stay cool! Whether you’re craving a simple vanilla ice cream cone or a wacky bacon-flavored popsicle, here are eight of the best places to treat your sweet tooth in Dallas this summer.

1. Carnival Barkers

Did y’all know Truck Yard on Lower Greenville has an ice cream stand positioned in front? They have flavors ranging from popular tastes such as cookie butter, to more imaginative choices like Shiner Bock.

3. Highland Park Pharmacy

This is one of my all-time favorite joints to stop in and get a frozen treat. Positioned at the corner of Knox and Travis, this old-fashioned soda fountain serves up everything from classic strawberry milkshakes to the orange freeze made with sherbet.

4. La Original Michoacana

What’s probably Bishop Arts District’s most colorful ice cream shop, is known for its off-the-wall flavors like chile mango, pistachio, passionfruit and avocado flavors. You can also get pretty creative with ice cream bars that you can dip in chocolate and roll in your choice of toppings!

Dallas, TX 75208

5. Wild About Harry’s

You can get your dinner and dessert at this retro Knox Street shop that serves up hot dogs next to frozen custard. Chocolate and vanilla are always available along with a rotating selection of other flavors like hazelnut fudge, butter pecan, coconut and cookies ‘n cream. Spice up your selection with toppings such as pecans, sprinkles or graham crackers, or go for a hot fudge-smothered sundae.

6. Sprinkles Ice Cream

It doesn’t get much better than cupcakes and ice cream TOGETHER! Flavor favorites include Cap’n Crunch, red velvet, rocky road and salty caramel. Next time you’re in Preston Center try the Sprinkles sundae, which plops a scoop of ice cream in the middle of a cupcake top and bottom!

7. Pokey O’s

When I’m in the mood for an ice cream sandwich, there’s no place better to go than this SMU neighborhood hot spot. Choose one their 15 ice cream flavors and one their 13 kinds of cookies to create your custom ice cream morsel!

8. Steel City Pops

SCP is the new trendy Dallas spot on Lower Greenville to enjoy a popsicle! You can expect to see the line out the door with patrons looking to taste  their unusual fresh fruit flavors like blood orange and pineapple jalapeno. However, those with more conservative taste buds look to the creamy pops in flavors like chocolate peanut butter, coffee and tangy buttermilk.
